2012 Comtes de Champagne Rosé: best ever made

2012 is the new vintage of Taittinger’s Comtes de Champagne rosé. It is the best ever made, according to both Vinous and The Wine Advocate, who rate it 98 and 97 points respectively. It is also exceptionally well-priced: it is offered below both 2008 and 2011. We have not seen a sharply priced release from Champagne for some time. This one stands out as a definite buy.

Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger’s top rosé. Made only in exceptional vintages, it is a serious, complex rosé Champagne with plenty of ageing potential. Like all Taittinger’s wines, it contains a substantial percentage of Chardonnay, creating the elegance and finesse that is the hallmark of the house style. Additional richness comes from 15% still red wine from the renowned village of Bouzy. The wine benefits from a long maturation period of 10 years before release.

2012 was an outstanding year in Champagne. Frost and hail in the early part of the year reduced yields then a fine sunny August resulted in ideal conditions for ripening. At Taittinger, the vintage is distinctive for its purity, balance and particular aromatic complexity.

Comtes de Champagne rosé is Taittinger’s rarest cuvee, made in much smaller quantities than the blanc de blancs version. 2012 is an exceptional vintage of it. Don’t miss out.
