One of the current highlights on our list is Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2019 from Domaine Chavy-Chouet. Made by a domaine we rate highly, it comes from a vintage of exuberant, concentrated whites. Neal Martin reckons Charmes is the best 2019 white at Chavy-Chouet, describing it as “an absolute knock-out” and rating it an impressive 94 points on Vinous. We are pleased to offer a special price for this wine of £400 in bond per six.
Domaine Chavy-Chouet is one of Burgundy’s rising stars. We have been following the wines since 2015 vintage and they never fail to impress. The critics are equally enthusiastic. Jasper Morris describes the wines as “very good wines”, while Neal Martin calls them “very pure, terroir-driven and focused”.
Chavy-Chouet’s Meursault 1er Cru Charmes comes from a tiny 0.3 hectare plot where the vines are over 75 years old, giving particular intensity of flavour. Charmes is known for wines that are typically open and aromatically expressive, and Chavy-Chouet’s version is no exception. Romaric Chavy’s minimal use of new oak and avoidance of lees stirring ensures that the 2019 remains crisp and fresh while still displaying the generosity of the vintage.
This is a superb premier cru from a very promising producer of white Burgundy. Buy some to drink now and some to mature further.
