2020s from Georges Noellat

The 2020s from Georges Noellat have just arrived in our warehouse. Described by Neal Martin as “one of the most exciting domaines in Vosne Romanee”, the domaine is a superstar producer in the making. 2020 was a vintage of intense, concentrated wines in Burgundy, and the wines at successful addresses such as this one are very good indeed.

Domaine Georges Noellat is run by a descendant of the Jayer family, the enthusiastic Maxime Cheurlin. Cheurlin took over here in 2010 when he was just 20 years old. Immediately reversing his grandmother’s policy of selling everything to negociants, he started bottling his own wines from his premises in the very centre of Vosne Romanee.

The results have been spectacular. This is perhaps no surprise: the domaine owns six hectares of top-notch vineyard land, with some exceptionally old vines. The vines in Vosne Beaumonts are over 90 years old, those in Echezeaux are almost 100 years old; in fact almost all the domaine vines are over 50 years old. This, combined with Maxime Cheurlin’s expertise in the cellar (he started his career with a stage at Rouget), makes for a winning combination.
