Just released is Bollinger’s new cuvee, PN TX 17. This is the third edition in the PN series by Bollinger made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Bollinger’s most famous and sought after wine, Vieilles Vignes Francaises, is, of course, also a varietal Pinot Noir. The PN wines showcase the variety that is integral to production at Bollinger, and this new release is very impressive indeed.
Each wine in the PN series has a different base vintage and comes from a different terroir. The PN TX 17 comes from the village of Tauxieres in Montagne de Reims, and comes predominantly from the 2017 vintage. The chalky soils of Tauxieres give wines that are known for their tension and complexity. The PN TX 17 base wines are fermented half in old oak foudres and half in stainless steel, and are supplemented by reserve wines aged in magnum dating back to 2006. Maturation in Bollinger’s cellars is carried out for twice the time required by the appellation, to give increased complexity and integration. Dosage for the PN TX 17 is very low at just 4 g/l: a sign of just how much flavour intensity the wine has.
This is a superb wine of richness and finesse. It can be enjoyed now but will develop over the next 10-15 years in the cellar.
