Brilliant, ready-to-drink Meursault from Chavy-Chouet

Domaine Chavy-Chouet is one of our favourite sources of white Burgundy. The Meursault Clos des Corvees de Citeau 2018 is drinking brilliantly now. It offers outstanding value for money at less than £50 per bottle including VAT. Few Cote de Beaune whites can match this in terms of price/quality ratio.

Run by Romaric Chavy since 2008, Domaine Chavy-Chouet comprises fifteen hectares spread across Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. The vineyards – which include several old vine plots – are farmed organically as much as possible. In the winery, minimal use of new oak and avoidance of lees stirring results in a fresh yet concentrated style.

The critics are very complimentary about the domaine. The Wine Advocate’s William Kelley describes Chavy-Chouet’s whites as “pure, tensile wines that are typically distinguished by their racy acids and aromatic precision”. Neal Martin is similarly enthusiastic on Vinous, calling the wines “very pure, terroir-driven and focused”. 

Clos des Corvees de Citeau is a monopole of the domaine and a true walled clos. This is the domaine’s calling card – and a very good one. It lies within the lieu-dit of Meursault l’Ormeau near the centre of the appellation. The 2018 vintage is drinking well now but will last another 3-5 years.
