Domaine de l’Ile is a Provence rosé from the owners of Chanel. Unsurprisingly, it is a rosé of some distinction. The latest vintage, 2023, has just arrived in our warehouse and it is drinking beautifully.
Domaine de I’Ile is located on the secluded island of Porquerolles, just off the coast of Provence. Since the Wertheimer family acquired the domaine in 2019, it has quickly developed a following. The domaine is certified organic and production is overseen by Nicolas Audebert: the man responsible for winemaking at the Wertheimers’ highly esteemed Bordeaux properties: Ch Rauzan-Segla and Ch Canon.
The island location means that the domaine benefits from a unique maritime influence. Cooled by breezes from all sides, the vines produce particularly delicate and complex fruit. The domaine’s rosé is made from a blend of classic Mediterranean varieties: Grenache, Mouvèdre, Cinsault, Syrah and Tibouren. Its concentration is such that, unlike many rosés, it improves with some months in bottle.
This is, quite simply, a delicious rosé. Fresh, crisp and considerably more complex than many of its peers, it is a superlative example of its type. Buy some now to enjoy over summer.
