The 2022 vintage is a triumph at Faiveley. We have tasted the wines twice: first in summer at the domaine and again in London last month. The wines are excellent across the range, the reds in particular. They are juicy, aromatic, and silkily textured: in short – delicious.
2022 is a vintage of balanced and concentrated wines in Burgundy. The summer was warm – yet again – but this year cool nights throughout the season allowed acidity to be retained and kept alcohol levels in check. With a happy absence of big heat spikes and water stress, the grapes ripened in excellent conditions. Harvest took place in glorious sunshine, and Faiveley brought in a high-quality crop which needed very little sorting.
The team at Faiveley seem to make even better wines each year. With a state-of-the-art winery, they are well-equipped to do so, and winemaker Jerome Flous has a wealth of experience to draw on, having now made sixteen vintages here. For the reds, the grapes are vinified in large thermoregulated oak fermentors for around 20 days. Some whole clusters are used, depending on the appellation, and maturation is in oak barrels. The resulting wines are expressive and finely structured.
These wines are very good indeed. The team at Faiveley are justifiably delighted with the vintage they have made this year. Don’t miss them.
