Domaine Hubert Lamy 2024

Domaine Hubert Lamy makes small quantities of outstanding wines in a secluded corner of Saint Aubin. “Some of contemporary Burgundy’s greatest wines” is how William Kellley describes them; “compelling” says Neal Martin. The wines are released late and they are always in high demand. We expect the new release, 2024, to be no exception.

Domaine Hubert Lamy has been run by Olivier Lamy since 1995. Famously meticulous, his viticultural and winemaking practices have been highly influential across the Cote d’Or. He was one of the pioneers of high density planting. By reducing the distance between rows, he encourages his vines’ roots to grow deeply, giving low yields of intense, concentrated grapes.

Lamy picks early; vibrant acidity is a hallmark of his wines. This acidity is counterbalanced by long lees ageing of up to two years, which adds texture. Lamy uses old oak almost exclusively, along with some glass and ceramic containers. The resulting wines are finely balanced, savoury and complex. With the exception perhaps of the Bourgogne, they benefit from at least a decade in bottle.

In 2024, the whites came out particularly well in Burgundy. “There are many delicious wines which merit attention”, says Jasper Morris. Neal Martin notes that the vintage “imbued many Chardonnays with razor-sharp tension and delineation that will attract admirers”.

This outstanding domaine makes complex, long-lived wines. Quantities are very limited.
