Etienne Sauzet has been a source of benchmark white Burgundy for many years. Recently the wines have become even better. As Neal Martin put it on his last visit to the domaine, “Benoît Riffault has fine-tuned this Puligny stalwart….and imbued Sauzet’s wines with more mineralité and tension.” Yet the prices have risen comparatively little at this estate, in the context of top end white Burgundy. We think these wines are a great buy today.
The estate is run today by Emilie, one of the Sauzet family, and her husband, Benoit Riffault. They have been farming organically since 2006, and operating entirely biodynamically since 2010. In the winery, the grapes are direct pressed before fermentation and elevage in oak, with a smaller percentage of new oak being used in recent years. The resulting wines are known for their laser-sharp focus and crisp terroir definition.
Etienne Sauzet’s wines are excellent all the way from from villages level to grand cru. They are in high demand for good reason. Don’t miss out.
