Pieropan: new releases from the master of Soave

No one does Soave as well as Pieropan. Refreshingly zesty in their youth, Pieropan’s wines develop beautifully in bottle, gaining complexity and texture with age. The latest releases from Pieropan are excellent, with perfumed aromatics and ripe fruit, underpinned by crisp acidity.

Pieropan is an estate with a long history. Winemaking started here in the 1890s, and Pieropan was the first producer to bottle a wine labelled Soave back in the 1930s. Today, Andrea and Dario Pieropan make the wines, and the estate has been certified organic since 2015.

The signature wine of the estate is the Soave Classico. It comes from hillside vineyards where the vines are up to 60 years old and is fermented in glass-lined cement tanks to allow the fruit to come through.

The two single vineyard wines for which the estate is renowned are made in contrasting styles. Calvarino comes from the volcanic basalt classic in the region and is unoaked, giving it a Chablis-like precision and minerality. La Rocca comes from a limestone outcrop and is fermented in large oak, resulting in greater richness and texture.

In the hands of the Pieropan family, Soave is a serious, ageworthy proposition. These new releases are superb.
