Jean-Marc Seleque

Jean-Marc Seleque is a rising star in Champagne.

He runs a small domaine in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, a sub-region between the Marne Valley and the Cote des Blancs. Established in the 1960s, the domaine has been on an upward trajectory since Jean-Marc’s arrival in 2008. He farms the vineyards according to organic principles and cultivates mechanically, using horses in some areas. He avoids adjustments as far as possible in the winery. The domaine now also owns small plots in the Marne Valley, and in Vertus in the Cote des Blancs.

The domaine makes use of a percentage of oak barrels for vinification, giving textural richness to the wines. A few glass vessels and amphorae are also used. The range begins with the excellent Solessence. This comes from a blend of vineyards and is made in Extra Brut, Rose, and Brut Nature versions. There are also two blanc de blancs. Quintette comes from five individual plots and is entirely vinified in oak. Soliste is a single vineyard Chardonnay from Pierry in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. Partition is the top wine, made from grapes from the seven best terroirs of the domaine and again vinified entirely in oak.

The Wine Advocate describes Jean-Marc Seleque as “among the most dynamic young producers in Champagne”.
