Laurent Tribut: highly acclaimed Chablis

Laurent Tribut, the brother-in-law of Vincent Dauvissat, makes excellent, classically styled Chablis. The wines are increasingly sought-after, and it is easy to see why. Neal Martin calls the domaine “one of my favourite producers in Chablis”, and William Kelley describes it as “one of the references for classic, artisanal Chablis”. These highly acclaimed wines remain very reasonably priced – especially considering the prices that the most famous names in Chablis now fetch.

The story of Domaine Laurent Tribut is inextricably linked with that of Domaine Dauvissat. Tribut began his career working at Dauvissat. Later, when he started his own domaine, it was with vineyards gifted to his wife by the Dauvissat family. These villages vineyards adjoin the Dauvissats’ own premier crus, as the Dauvissats bought these plots many years ago to pass on to their children. The very first Laurent Tribut wines were even vinified in the Dauvissat cellars.

Today, the approach at Tribut‘s premises in Poinchy still owes much to the Dauvissats’ methods. In the vineyard, yields are kept low and the grapes are always hand harvested, with care taken to ensure optimum ripeness.

In the winery, vinification takes place in tanks of enamelled steel to allow for clarity of fruit expression. Maturation is in old oak, with some lees contact, to add texture without oaky flavours.  The wines are known for their freshness, subtlety and finesse. The latest releases, the 2022s, are no exception.
