Ottatadue 2019: a Cuchet&co recommendation

Ottantadue is the newest wine from cult Tuscan estate Podere Il Carnasciale. Described as “bright, effusive, and full of personality” and rated 94 points by Antonio Galloni on Vinous, Ottantadue is an excellent wine. It offers fantastic value especially compared to grander wines in Tuscany. At just £20 per bottle in bond, we think this is a great buy.

Podere Il Carnasciale is situated high in the mountains in southern Chianti. The estate is renowned for its highly sought-after flagship wine Il Caberlot which comes from a fascinating hybrid unique to the estate. Ottantadue was first produced in 2015 from the grapes which come from 20 year old vines. After fermentation with some whole bunches, the wine sees 14 months’ maturation in stainless steel to put the focus on the fruit. The result is a fresh, vibrant yet concentrated wine that is very impressive indeed.

Ottantadue has been highly praised by the critics since first release. The Wine Advocate calls the 2019 vintage “perhaps the best release of this wine so far”.
