Podere Il Carnasciale makes unique wines from a unique grape variety. The estate cultivates a fascinating hybrid, which combines the plush exuberance of Merlot with the fragrance of Cabernet Franc. This variety gives its name to the flagship wine of the estate: Il Caberlot. The distinctive wines of Podere Il Carnasciale are highly sought-after, for good reason.

Podere Il Carnasciale has just 5.8 hectares under vine, high up in the mountains in southern Chianti. Production is tiny, with high density planting to limit yields and enhance complexity and concentration. Two wines are made from the hybrid variety: the top wine Il Caberlot, for which the best barrels are selected, and the more approachable Il Carnasciale. For long maturation, Il Caberlot is superb. For earlier drinking, Il Carnasciale is highly recommended: made in a very similar style to Il Caberlot, it comes at a fraction of the price.
