Bruno Lorenzon makes standout, ageworthy wines in Mercurey. These wines are serious rivals to many from better known appellations in the Cote d’Or.

The quality here is the result of a distinctive approach. Lorenzon’s vineyards are planted at twice the density of most in Burgundy, and he does long macerations to ensure gentle extraction. Having worked in a cooperage before setting up his winery, Lorenzon still makes his own barrels. He uses a very low toast to give structure, rather than excessive oaky flavour, to the wines.

The Wine Advocate’s William Kelley compares Bruno Lorenzon to trailblazers such as Vincent Dureuil and Jean-Marie Guffens. Not only that, he buys them himself for personal consumption. This is a domaine to watch.
