Domaine Fourrier

Domaine Fourrier is based in Gevrey Chambertin. Since 1994, it has been run by Jean-Marie Fourrier. Jean-Marie began his career with an internship at Henri Jayer, then broadened his horizons at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. After that, at the age of just 23 – took over from his father at the family domaine.

The domaine comprises nine hectares and is known for its particularly old vines, many of which are between 75 and 100 years old. Fruit from vines under 30 years is often sold off, and the age of the vines means traditional planting material predominates. Low yields and good concentration are the result.

In the cellar, Fourrier is known for a hands-off approach. He carefully de-stemmed the grapes then vinifies them with very gentle extraction. Fourrier retains a high level of carbonic gas to minimise sulphur dioxide additions. The wines are aged in a maximum of 20% new oak and Fourrier does not rack during elevage to avoid disturbing the wines. The wines are known for their purity of fruit and characteristic silkiness of texture.

Most of the domaine’s holdings are in Gevrey-Chambertin. Alongside the village wine, there are four premier crus in Gevrey Chambertin, including the highly esteemed Clos St Jacques and the lesser known but excellent Les Goulots. The domaine also owns plots in Chambolle-Musigny and Morey St-Denis. It makes a rare, highly sought-after Griotte-Chambertin.

There is also a small negociant operation. Wines made from bought-in fruit are bottled under the label Jean-Marie Fourrier.
